Second Grade Music Class

In 2nd grade music class, students are working on finding strong and weak beat in music by keeping the beat in combinations (for example - pat, clap). We are still working on rhythm patterns with quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests, but we are also using the half notes. Students should be able to read and play these rhythms by the end of the school year.

2nd grade students are also learning ostinatos (repeated musical patterns) to accompany songs. They are working on crescendos and decrescendos (getting louder and getting softer).

By the end of the school year, we will be able to identify measures, bar lines, the staff, double bar lines and the treble clef. We will also be listening to basic form in music (AB, ABA and ABACA form) by determining same and different sections of music.
