About Me!

ABOUT MRS. ENGLER:

I earned my BA from Salisbury University and attended Radford University for my MS in School Counseling.  I have school counseling experience in both the elementary and middle school levels and have also worked as a substitute teacher.  This is my 5th year at Twin Ridge Elementary School (TRES).

In my free time, I enjoy riding horses, art, writing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  I am the Maryland School Counselor Association (MSCA) editor and am in charge of putting together the quarterly newsletter.  In addition, I enjoy volunteering with the Frederick County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program  and am in my second year of working as an instructor for the program.  I am working toward earning my North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) certification.  The program is designed to allow individuals with disabilities in Frederick County to take riding lessons free of charge.  I live with my husband, Scott Engler (a high school chemistry teacher in Howard County) and our yellow Labrador retriever, Lucy.

I also have a teddy bear hamster named Danny and a betta fish named Roy who also attend TRES!  They'd love it if you stop by and visit :)

Here are some little known facts about me:

I was born in England!  Sorry, I don' t have an accent..  It disappeared in elementary school.

I'm a vegetarian.

I'm left-handed.

I've been riding horses since I was 12.

For the past year, I have been working on writing my very first novel for teens based on a variety of dreams I've had and my imagination.  It should be finished by the end of the school year, and soon I'll be working on getting it published.

I'm also working on a series of children's books told from the perspective of my hamster, Danny.  One of my friends has taken on the challenge of illustrating the books.  The goal is to create a series of books with relevant topics to help children work through challenges at school.  While still in the working stages, I read my first story, Danny the Hamster Goes to School to some of our incoming kindergarteners this year.
