Hood College Interns

Hood College Education Majors and Initial Certification Program

Students may enter certification programs as undergraduates majoring in early childhood education (ECE), dual certification in elementary and special education or secondary eductation subject area. 

Students majoring in education participate in numerous field experiences.  The experiences are placements in Professional Development Schools (PDS)throughout FCPS. Field Experience occurs in various levels. 

  • Pre-requisite EDUC 204-Sophomore Year

Students in this placement are in the schools 1/2 day each week.  They are mostly observing the classroom environment and education process. 

  • Phase 1-Junior Year

Teacher candidates are in the schools 1/2 day each week.  The interns may be interacting with individual or a small group of students.  They may be responsible to write and implement lessons.  Interns will be observing the mentor teacher as well as other teachers. 

  • Phase II-Senior Year First Semester

The Hood College intern will be in the schools approximately 2 1/2 days each week.  They will be interacting with individual and small groups of students. They may also be responsible to instruct the whole class.  They are responsible for lesson writing and implementation.

  • Phase III-Senior Year Second Semester

This is the intern's last semester of college.  The placement may also be considered "student teaching".  The interns in phase III placement will teach the mentor teacher's full schedule for approximately 2-3 weeks.
