This year you will be hearing the word "fluency" a lot from me.  So what is fluency anyway? 

Fluency refers to the ability to read accurately, automatically, and with proper expression.  Basically, a fluent reader's reading sounds like real speech.  Fluency is important for many reasons.  First, fluency is a "significant factor in reading ability and is related to comrehension and achievement" (Kuhn and Stall, 2000).  When a child is reading fluently, they will better understand what they are reading, and enjoy their reading.
