Mrs. Kennedy's Website - 8th Grade Language Arts

Purpose of Website: Welcome to Mrs. Kennedy's website!  This site is dedicated to parents/guardians and students.  Throughout the semester I will update the site weekly to include important information that applies to my classes, including what we're currently studying, homework, and any other pertinent information.  The intention of this site is to expand the path of communication in our educational community. I hope that you will visit it often.  I will update homework every Monday, and include other new information as it occurs.

Current Unit:  Tolerance 

All classes have finished reading Romeo and Juliet.   They did a great job and really seemed to enjoy it!  Our last project for the year will be to write a persuasive ECR on a controversial topic and create a visual aid to accompany the essay.  Students will choose a topic from our school database called "Issues and Controversies."  We will spend some time working on it in class, but students will be required to do some work on the assignment at home.   Look for details about this project to come home on June 1st or June 2nd. The last word study word part  is "onym" which means "word/name." 

Homework beginning the week of June 1 thru June 12: 

ALL CLASSES:

• Reading log #9 - Focus:  Setting  - due Mon 6/1.
• "onym" HW due on Wed., 6/3.
• "onym" quiz Mon., 6/8.

Due dates for Persuasive Essay -

• Choose your topic for your persuasive essay from the "Issues and Controversies" database (remember, your password and user ID are both fredco): due Tues., 6/2.
• *Rough draft due by end of class on Thurs., 6/4.
• Final copy (1 - 1 and 1/2 pages) and *photo story or powerpoint (5 - 10 slides) due Tues., 6/9.
