A library means different things to different people. You may think of the library as refuge, or a place to read and think quietly, or a place with a lot of books and other sources of information. It is also a classroom. Your library at New Market Middle School is at the center of the school building physically, but it is also at the center of your intellectual freedom and information literacy. This means that as a student you can make book choices to read for recreation or a classroom reading requirement. You might want to play a game of chess or get comfortable with a book-on-tape. You will also learn how to make more informed choices about what you are looking for with information-seeking strategies and skills to evaluate resources for value and integrity.
You will visit the library every other week with your Language Arts class for a book exchange. You will also have an opportunity to use the library for research projects with other classes throughout the school year. Each of your teachers has a library pass, and with his or her permission, you may visit the library anytime between your scheduled library classes.
Welcome to the New Market Middle School Library! I'm glad you're here!
