NEWSchalk board

Hello!  We have much to accomplish in the weeks ahead!  Even though the MSAs are complete we will continue to work on various concepts to increase our number sense skills and support the lessons being taught and learned in the regualr math classrooms.   Right now we are working on integer computation skills!  In the near future we will be starting a unit on probability.  Start thinking about an end of the year project you can do!

PLEASE make sure you have supplies for class!! Bring in paper for your folder and PENCILS!!!

Some general information about me and the classes I teach at WFMS:

I am a Math Intervention teacher at WFMS.  I have been teaching in Frederick County since 1986!  This will be my 7th year at West Frederick Middle School.

If your child is in one of my classes you know that Mr. Milauskas and I co-teach.  Mr. Milauskas is there every day, but since I work at WFMS  part time, I am in only a few days each week.  ( 3 or 4 days a week, every Day ONE)

As well as reviewing and practicing math skills as preparation for success on the MSA,   we will also be learning new math topics that students will be covering in their regular math class.  This is often referred to as "pre teaching."  We keep in contact with the regular math teachers.    This builds confidence and success!

Because we have no text book for this class, much of our learning will be hands-on and therefore will require each student to be an active participant in the class.  In addition we will frequently be using the computer and a program called iLearn.  Students work at their own pace and on topics that they need help with.  Each students needs have been determined by pretests they have taken on the computer.  Please check your childs grades on pinnacle!

There is only one homework assignement each week.  This is called the "Weekly Worksheet".  It is handed out on Monday or Tuesday, due on Friday.  If you dont turn it in your grade will be a ZERO!!!

Some things you will need to know:

  • We  have provided each child with a folder that he/she will keep in the classroom.  STUDENTS MUST BRING A PENCIL TO CLASS WITH THEM EACH DAY!!
  • Warm-ups are a very important part of the instruction in our class.  Students are expected to copy and solve warm up problems each day.
  • The grade that students earn in this class will be based mostly on their grades on daily classwork assignments,  computer work on iLearn and Weekely worksheets.  There may also be projects, quizzes and term assessments.  Their participation and progress on iLearn will also count towards their grade.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's progress in our class, please e-mail either of us at:

or

We can be reached by phone at 240-236-4048

We are looking forward to a great 2007-2008!
