Art classes in Frederick County Schools, including Brunswick Elementary, are taught using the principle of  Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE).  The four components of DBAE are Essential Discipline Goals for Art at every elementary grade level.

K - 5 Art Curriculum  - Essential Discipline Goals

• CRITICAL- The student will develop the ability to describe, analyze, interpret and judge art.
• HISTORICAL/CULTURAL -The student will develop an understanding of the visual arts as a basic aspect of the shared ideas, beliefs, customs and experiences of a given people at a given time.
• PRODUCTION -  The student will develop and organize knowledge, skills, ideas, and feelings for expression in the creation of art.
• AESTHETICS - THe studen will develop the ability to identify, analyze, and apply criteria for making visual aesthetic judgements based on the senses and how they are affected.
