Hello PARENTS and Fabulous YOUNG PEOPLE!!

Welcome to Second Semester of Miss Welty's 8th Grade Language Arts!

OK folks -- it's GO time.  This is the time that we start to separate the boys from the men (you know what I mean) --  it's time to get you REALLY prepared for high school.  No more Miss Nice Guy -- it's time for you to really be accountable for your own grade, responsible for your own assignments and no excuses.  Let's get you ready -- and have some fun along the way!  This spring is really going to be amazing.

With this webpage, I hope to keep you updated on the goings-on and happenings in our classroom.  We will have a busy year full of reading, writing and lots of learning about ourselves and eachother....all through written and verbal communication.

I will try to keep things consistent for every class, but if there is anything specific to any class, I will put a note with your class's color. (Parents: please ask your students to let you know which class color they are!)

WEEK of March 30th:

Unit of Study: Ending Overcoming Obstacles.  Beginning Perseverence!

Word Study (quiz on Friday): void (need to know the spelling this week!)

Special events:  Starting a few new books -- so excited!

Reading Logs: Due on Monday, April 6th: Examine the plot points in your text.  What is the most important?

Assignments:  RED CLASS will finish Parallel Journeys by the end of this week.  A genre passoort is due on Friday the 3rd.  YELLOW CLASS will begin the Oral Traditions unit this week -- more to come!  BLUE and PURPLE CLASSES will begin reading The River Between Us this week, after we learn some background on the Civil War.

Special Announcements: I am going to place a calendar of the rest of the year under documents.  Wish me luck.
