Mrs. Sellars' Site
The curriculum for the Reading & Writing Workshop combines research based materials to increase student-reading abilities. The skills taught include:
- Main Idea & Details
- Summarizing Literary Elements
- Author's Purpose
- Text Structure: Informational and Literary Texts
- Literary Elements: Tone, Mood, Simile, Metaphor, Personification
- Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions with Informational and Literary Text
- Compare and Contrast with Informational and Literary Text
Instruction includes large group, small-group, computer-based instruction, along with individualized attention as needed. Students will build their content-area reading abilities during the course by reading selections from the following subjects: Science, Social Studies, and Arts & Music.
Term Two -- Reading Logs
Homework reading logs will be due on the following dates:
* Tuesday, November 25th
* Tuesday, December 2nd
* Monday, December 8th
* Tuesday, December 16th
* Monday, December 22nd
School-wide Rules:
1. Leave gum at home.
2. Keep hats, coats, food, electronic devices
(phones, MP3 players, etc.) in your locker.
3. Stay out of basement level staircases.
Classroom Rules:
1. Arrive on time with your materials.
2. Be prepared to participate! The class is highly
participatory.
3. Be respectful to yourself and others.
4. Follow instructions the first time they
are given.
