PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT ME:
The school year 2009/2010 will be my seventh year teaching at WFMS. Prior to that, while my own children were young, I spent time substituting in several schools in Frederick County, and before that I taught many years as a full time Special Education teacher for students with Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders in Jefferson County, WV.
I have a BA in Special Education, a MA in Psychology, and Advanced Professional Teaching Certification from the state of Maryland. Like many parents in our school, I have been a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, a Boy Scout Committee Member, a PTSA officer and committee chairs from elementary to high school levels, a soccer coach, a board member of several civic organizations, and the list goes on. The point is, I spend time with children and students of all ages, it keeps the mind active and informed.
I have two children of my own. My son attends the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, where he is a senior this year, majoring in Criminal Justice. My daughter attends the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina; she is a sophomore, majoring in Business. Both successfully completed their education in the Frederick County Public School System.
ACADEMY:
The Academy is in its second year at WFMS this year, 2009/2010. I am one of several teachers in the Seventh Grade Academy. If your child is working within the Academy, he/she is receiving instruction in the academic areas of language arts, social studies, math, science, and reading.
In addition to using the Maryland State Voluntary Curriculum, we also incorporate research based intervention programs for math and reading, which include iLearn, Moving with Math, FASST Math, Corrective Reading, Read Naturally, Read About, and Reading/Writing Workshop.
YEARBOOK:
School Year 2009/2010
The Yearbook Committee has already completed it's first presale. Because fewer books have been ordered this year, a price increase to cover costs was implemented. All yearbooks will now cost $35.00 each, and personalizations are no longer available.
The Yearbook Student Committee was choosen based on criteria listed on the application. Congratulations to those students, their names have been posted in the school. Unfortunately, some students did not put their names on their applications or did not follow the criteria as listed, therefore we could not accept those. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 26, from 3:00 - 4:00 in room 2113. The activity bus will be available for those students who wish to ride it. Parents picking up their students should do so in front of the building. Meetings will never be held on Fridays, as the activity bus does not run on Fridays.

It is very important to understand that the student Yearbook Committee, my co-advisor (Ms. Klutterman), and I do all we can to insure that your child's book is labeled and thus identified as his/her property. Once each student has possession of his/her book, it then becomes his/her property and thus, his/her responsibility to handle the book wisely. Theft and loss can not be covered by the Yearbook Committee once each individual student has taken possession of his/her own book. Please remind your child of his/her responsibility in keeping their book safe and the importance of respecting the books of other students.
Thank you.
